Lake Mburo National park emerges Uganda’s leading birding hostspot with 551 species.

Lake Mburo National Park is  Uganda leading bird hostspot with 551 species recorded on the #GlobalBigDay.The Global Big Day – is  a worldwide event of the birdwatching community which took place on May, 5. 2018. Uganda birders joined the rest of the world in the 24 hour birding activity #GLOBAL BIG DAY. Thousands of birders watched birds from midnight to midnight. This was the first time Uganda is participating in this event.  

Birders from other sites in Uganda participated, including those from Kidepo National Park, Semliki National Park, Lake Mburo National Park, Mghahinga National Park, Bwindi impenetraable national park, Kibale forest national park, Bigodi wetland, Lutembe Bay, mabamba bay, mabira forest, Murchison falls national park, Queen Elizabeth National park and Budongo forest.


To participate birders had to first login in on ebird app, record the start time of the activity, the stop time, the duration of the activity. To the share birdsightings on social media platforms  hash tag #GlobalBigDay was used.
