3 Days Congo Mountain Gorilla Trekking

Visit Virunga national park – Africa’s oldest national park, located eastern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo. In the Congo are great apes; Mountain Gorilla, Eastern low land gorillas, and Eastern Chimpanzee.

This option combines Congo’s Virunga National Park gorilla trekking.

Despite the history of instability in DR Congo, Calm has been restored to Virunga national park. If you are seeking exclusive luxury, soft adventure, perfect holiday vacation, DR Congo remains a destination for hardcore, more daring adventure travelers.

TIP: In terms of travel attitude, you need to be flexible and patient, as service level in most is less or equal to average compared to most safari destinations you probably have been to. Being courageous can be helpful.

The mountain gorilla expedition can get tough, challenging as you get through the jungle, but it is filled with fun. The experience is really intimate and you are able to get really close to the gorillas. There is no doubt encountering mountain gorillas of Congo is the main highlight of the tour.

Itinerary

Day 0: Arrival in Kigali (Rwanda)/ Nairobi airport (Kenya)

You will have two choices of airports to arrive at. Our representative will pick you up and transfer you to your preferred hotel.

Day 1: Kigali to Goma or Fly from Nairobi to Goma

Our guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kigali, transfer you as early as 6 am to Gisenyi, our guide will guide you on how to go through the border. You will receive your Congolese visa at the border, cross the border at Grand Barrier to Goma. You will check-in at Virunga national park office, near immigration by mid-morning. Our Congolese partner will receive you and transfer you to your hotel.

You could choose to Fly from Nairobi airport to Goma airport. On arrival in Goma, our Congolese partner driver/guide will receive you and transfer you to your lodge where you will spend the next two nights.

Day 2: Virunga National Park – Gorilla trekking

Early morning transfer to the starting point at Rumangabo, the park headquarters, receive orientation about gorilla trekking etiquette from rangers. You will start your gorilla trekking adventure in Virunga National Park. Trekking duration ranges from 1 to 6 hours and will depend on the location of the gorilla family being trekked. Upon rangers locating the gorilla family, you will be allocated one hour of gorilla viewing. After trekking, you will transfer back to the lodge.

Day 3: Transfer to Kigali/ Fly out back to Nairobi for your connecting flight

Today you will transfer to Kigali City (Rwanda). Alternatively, your driver will drive you to Goma airport for your flight out of Congo. This marks the end of your DR Congo gorilla tour.
