6 Day Gorillas & Chimps Safari Rwanda

This tour takes you gorilla trekking safari in Volcanoes national park and chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest national park. This offers you the best wildlife encounter of the closest relatives to human beings in the jungle. The Tour starts with an orientation about Rwanda’s Dark past but bright future in a kigali city.

Day 1: Pick up and Kigali City Tour

Day 2:Transfer Nyungwe Forest

Day 3: Chimp trekking in Nyungwe forest – Kibuye City

Day 4: Kibuye- Volcanoes national park

Day 5: Volcanoes national park – Gorilla Tracking.

Trip Price Includes:

Day 1: Pick up and Kigali City Tour

upon you arrival at kigali airport, our driver guide will pick up and transfer you to Kigali for a city tour. You will tour various sites in the city such as the kigali convention centre, national Museum, presidential palace, and the kigali genocide memorial centre among others.

Luxury at: Kigali Serena hotel/ Hotel Des Mille Colline. All meals.

 

Day 2:Transfer Nyungwe Forest

After a morning breakfast, drive for 6-7 hours to Nyungwe forest national park in the south western part of the country. Enjoy sightseeing Rwanda’s thousand hills. You will have lunch en-route and reach at the lodge in the evening.

Day 3: Chimp trekking in Nyungwe forest – Kibuye City

After breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for briefing and then hike into the forest to trek the chimpanzees. You will also encounter other animals such as the elephants, colubuses,blue monkeys and many bird species. In the afternoon, drive for 2 hours to Kibuye for a city tour and then return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

 

Day 4: Kibuye- Volcanoes national park

After Breakfast, transfer to Musanze, Volcanoes Park. Afternoon visit scenic twin lakes of  Bulere and Ruhondo twin lakes These are beautiful lakes. They are surrounded by steep hills and large waterfalls with a backdrop of the Virunga volcanic mountains.

Day 5: Volcanoes national park – Gorilla Tracking

After early breakfast, transfer to the Volcanoes national Park gate to meet ef ranger guides and orientation on gorilla etiquette. You will be allocated a gorilla family to visit. The gorilla trekking activity can be physically engaging, often lasting between one to 8 hours. But finally seeing gorillas is a once in lifetime rewarding experience. Carry with you picnic lunch as well as sufficient water as the rain forest gets hot and humid during the day. Please note that It is helpful to bring good hiking boots, long trousers, gloves for protection against stinging nettles. You will spend one hour with the gorillas. After gorilla tracking, return to hotel

Day 6: Golden monkey Tracking/community village experience and transfer to Kigali

After breakfast, go for Golden monkey tracking (optional), or visit to community village for local experience (optional). Fantastic views, lush forested slopes and an exceptional environment. After transfer to Kigali city.

Lodging mentioned in the itinerary depends on availability of rooms available at the time of booking. Reservations will only be made after your confirmed booking with us. At the time of your booking, in the event that listed hotels are fully booked, we will do our best to inform you and book a different hotel in the same class.

 

Important: To go on a gorilla trek, you need a gorilla permit/license which we can arrange for you.  We can only purchase your Gorilla permit after you have made a down-payment to us. Gorilla permits are competitive on a daily basis, advance booking is always preferred.

Please note the gorilla tracking in this itinerary can be done in Bwindi and or Mgahinga national parks. Gorilla tracking is dependent on the permits availability at the time of your booking. Gorilla permits in all parks are on a very high demand and we advise that you book them as early as possible.

 

Gorilla trekking can be strenuous activity and Minimum gorilla tracking age is 15 years.

What to bring: Hiking shoes/walking shoes,  long socks to tuck-in long pants , rain wear, warm clothing, evenings can be cold/chilly, gloves preferably gardening type are very helpful and  insect repellant.

 

Anyone with signs of communicable diseases will NOT be allowed to track.

While possession of a gorilla permit is a guarantee of trekking and

Maximum time allowed with the gorillas will NOT exceed ONE hour, you are kindly requested to practice different modes of using your camera in different light situations. Gorillas can sometimes be moving, Forest vegetation can at times obstruct visibility, and hence taking photos of these creatures can be very challenging!

 

Transport:

Our standard offering is a 4WD vehicle.  All passengers will have a dedicated window seat. Your driver/guide will be at your disposal for questions.

Difficulty:

Gorilla trekking takes place at altitudes 1200 to 2607m (3806 to 8553ft) above sea level. This means that moderate/average physical fitness is required. The slowest member will determine the groups’ speed. The pace will be moderate, with plenty stops to rest, ask questions, re-hydrate and enjoy the forest and views.
